For a vast majority of us, when we think of goals the first image that comes to mind is a scale. The scale can be a useful tool when it comes to health & fitness goals, but there is far more to life than our weight.
When I think of goals, I envision things that impact my life as a whole. Although weight is a significant factor in life, I've made it a point to focus on expanding and enriching all aspects of my life. I've put a few tips below that I started with when I made the switch.
Read on below if you too would like to enrich other aspects of your life.
Get More Sleep
As a mom, wife and business owner I'm constantly feeling worn-out sluggish and fatigued. After feeling like this consistently it will start to wear on you and starts to make a noticeable negative impact on your life. So how do you fix this? Get more sleep of course!
Now you're probably yelling at the screen "I DON'T HAVE TIME TO SLEEP MORE" or something similar to that. But hear me out. When I say get more sleep, what I'm really saying is: Get BETTER sleep.
I've made a few simple changes in my life that I've noticed have made a big difference in my sleep.
No screen time 30 minutes before bed
Phone stays in living room at night
Use an actual alarm clock
Kept alarm clock far outside of arms length
Stick to a schedule
How do I know these small changes have made a difference?
Besides feeling better and less fatigued I've started tracking my sleep with one of my new favorite tech gadgets ever. The Oura Ring!!!
This thing is great. Honestly, it's made such a difference in my life. It helps you find an optimal bedtime, it measures the quality of your sleep, it measures the stages of your sleep, it measures your sleep trends. AND SO MUCH MORE! Seriously go check Oura out!
Get Financially Stable
This was a huge one for me, and I'm sure is a huge one for everyone reading this. Because of that it was crucial to me that I figured out a way to get my finances in order. Before we get in to this, I just have to throw this little bit of info out there because this shocked me.
78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck!!
Financial stability can mean very different things person to person, because of that I'll just list some basic goals that I gave myself. Hopefully these give you some ideas to start with.
Save 3 months worth of bills
Get debt in check
Create a budget plan
Have an emergency fund
I know looking at that it can seem like a daunting task. But it doesn't have to be, take it slow and one step at a time. Make small changes and you'll be surprised how easily you can save up 3 months worth of bills.
The most surprising thing for Hunter and I was when we sat down and listed how much money we were "blowing" on things that we either didn't need, use, or could do without. For example, we wrote everything down and realized that we were spending about $300 a month on alcohol! HOW DID THAT BENEFIT US?
It didn't, so we cut it out. That doesn't mean we don't still occasionally have a drink, but we aren't out every night buying bottles at the club. The things that seem the smallest could make a huge difference in your financial life.
Keep a Morning Routine
Mornings are tough, especially as a mother. They used to start almost immediately with stress and anxiety. That obviously wears on you and starts to feed in to your life. Naturally as I started to make changes in my life to focus on living a better more fulfilling life I made it a point to try and remove as much stress as possible.
The easiest way I could think of to remove as much stress as possible in the morning was to have a routine. Now, everyone will have a different morning and different things to get their days started but the basics are still the same.
Wake up at the same time
Make your bed
Drink a glass of water immediately
Knock out any easy tasks as soon as possible.
For me my mornings look something like this.
Wake up, make the bed, drink a 32 Oz Mason jar of water, check & prioritize emails (water & emails done simultaneously), shower, start breakfast. All of this is within about the first hour of being awake, at this point Rei is starting to wake up and the day is off to a running start.
It was strange at first sticking to a routine every morning, but over time I've noticed that it's made a large impact in how accomplished I feel every day. If I can manage to get all of that done in the first hour of every day, it puts me in a positive mindset to achieve bigger and better things for the rest of the day.
There's far more that can be done in your day to day actions that will promote a positive change in the way you view your life. Start with small changes, observe how these changes impact your life. Once you feel comfortable with these small changes, start to implement other actions. Before you know it, your whole life will start to look different.
