So, you want to be fit. You want to feel healthier and happier with yourself. You know how much you should weigh. You know your ideal pant size. Heck, maybe you can even picture yourself wearing that pair of jeans you’ve been dreaming about getting.
The question is; why aren’t you living life in your ideal body yet? To be honest, there are probably dozens of reasons in your life that make weight loss a challenge. Some of those reasons are probably quite a bit deeper than just calories in vs calories out.
What I’m referencing here are life issues that get in the way of your success. Below are five obstacles and some solutions that I’ve found to help you unlock your best body ever! You don't want to be bothered. As humans, it’s a hard-coded fact that our DNA is designed to avoid pain and instead seek out pleasure. That’s great and all, but unfortunately, this works against you when you’re trying to get fit. The way you see it in your mind is painful, you associate the discomfort you feel with pain because it’s hard to deny yourself the sugary snacks you’ve grown used to in life.
The easiest solution possible that I’ve found: Find something that’s painful (or uncomfortable) about being out of shape and use that to motivate you towards your goal. When it gets hard to continue, focus on the negative impacts your current weight has on your health, self-esteem and lifestyle. Use that to convince yourself that the pain of being out of shape is much greater than the pain of losing the weight!
You don't want to wait. As I mentioned above, we’re hard-coded to seek out pleasure. This was great back in the days of the cavemen, but now, in the age of couch potatoes all it does is serve our waist and thighs more weight. This can all be solved with a little bit of work though. You just need to re-wire your brain to associate pleasure with something other than sweets and snacks. Find an activity that makes you smile and indulge in those instead of Doritos.
A walk outside
A good book
A night out to the movies or theater
A spa day
There’s not enough time. Ever. This is the most common reason you hear. When you ask someone why they haven’t started with their fitness goals, they’ll typically say it's because “They don’t have enough time”. I get it, to an extent. I mean let’s be real here, we’re all pretty busy. The thing is, not all of us are “busy” with the right things.
It’s time to refocus our time, efforts and energy on the things that matter. It’s time to remove a few of your commitments from your schedule, and focus on cooking some healthy meals, exercising or even getting a good night's rest. Taking care of yourself and your health is important. More important than wine night with the girls. Your health isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity!
You don't deserve it. A lot of us have negative mindsets towards ourselves and what we actually deserve. A great deal of us act like we don’t deserve to live the good life that we’ve all dreamt about. How many times in the past have you self-sabotaged your weight loss goals? If there's a part of you somewhere deep down that doesn’t believe you’re worth the effort, then you’ll never actually give yourself the chance to get the body of your dreams. I truly believe that every single one of you deserves to have the dream body. I need you to believe it as well. You deserve to be fit! You deserve to be healthy! You deserve to have constant energy! Good Ole Fear. Ahhhhh, the dreaded fear. We’ve all been there, and we’ll probably all meet that old friend again. You’re probably afraid to start because you’ve failed before. It was embarrassing, so now you just stop yourself from even trying anymore.
Maybe you’re afraid to start because, who knows, maybe you’ll succeed. That comes with change, and change is scary, it makes you uncomfortable. I get it, fear is a big part of it. But fear can be overcome. You just need to focus on the way losing that weight will make your life better.
I want to help you envision your better life, every single day. Reach out to me for guidance, I’m here to support you!
