5 Fitness Motivation Tips...Even During A Quarantine

Updated: Jul 6, 2020

I get it, you’ve been in quarantine for 3 or so months. Your vacations were cancelled, all your favorites places are probably closed, and you just don’t feel like exercising. Not today. Not on another lock-down Monday! My job, is to remind you of just how important exercise is, and how great it makes you feel. Even in the midst of a quarantine. In fact, especially during a quarantine!

These 5 reasons will help keep you motivated to stuck to that exercise routine so you can come out of this quarantine looking (and feeling) better than ever!

Keep in mind, that there is no “One size fits all” motivation. Different things motivate different people, so use the tips below to find what helps you through it.

Tip #1: Achieving A Goal

A common thread between those just starting with exercise, those getting back in to it after a break, and even those who’ve been exercising for some time but have gotten “stale”. Is feeling like they haven’t made any large strides with their routine. My suggestion to them is always the same; find a goal to achieve. The key here is to pick a goal that is difficult to achieve (but still achievable) you don’t want to make it an unrealistic goal. If you do this it's likely that you’ll end up feeling overwhelmed and give up entirely. So, set realistic milestones for your goals. When you hit those goals, enjoy the accomplishment, be proud of yourself, and then set another set of goals!

Tip #2: Reward Yourself!

Now that we just talked about achieving goals, let’s make it a bit more fun. Give yourself a reward! If you really think about it, much of our life is motivated by rewards. So why should exercise be any different? Let’s be clear here, when I say reward yourself, I don’t mean go to Cheesecake Factory and order a slice of their Oreo Cheesecake. You can however, go buy yourself a new pair of jeans for hitting that goal. Or maybe, being healthier and having more energy is reward enough for you. As long as you have something that lets you know your hard work is paying off.

Tip #3: A Sense of Enjoyment

Maybe exercise isn’t enjoyable for you, maybe it’s something that you constantly dread doing and that’s why you never stick to it. Let’s find a way to make it something that you enjoy then! Everyone, I don’t care who you are, has something that they enjoy doing. Maybe running is something you loathe, but you love a good hike. Maybe you don’t enjoy exercising alone and need some social interaction. Join a team (yes, believe it or not, you can still have social interaction during quarantine. Even without having to come in contact with people). Whatever it is, find something that you enjoy doing that will make “exercise” less like a chore and more like something you’d do for fun.

Tip #4: Boost Your Confidence

Sometimes, it can take a lot of confidence to start an exercise routine. That’s ok, and it’s completely normal. It’s important to remember who you are, and be confident in that, no matter what size or shape you are. Don’t compare yourself to others around you, or those on social media, or “social norms”. Keep your eyes locked entirely on YOUR goal, and be realistic with your timeframes. You can’t expect results after one week of exercise. What's important here is to strive to have YOUR best body... not someone else’s body.

Tip #5: Improved Health

I like to save the best for last.

If you haven’t done so yet, hop on Google and then search “Health benefits of exercise”. I’ll be here waiting; you’ll probably be there for a while.

You done reading now? Great! As you can see, there is a pretty impressive list of health benefits. Exercise helps achieve and maintain a healthy weight. It helps lower bad cholesterol, and blood pressure and simultaneously helps to improve the good cholesterol in your body! If that wasn’t enough for you, exercise has been shown to strengthen your bones as well. Exercise can also help lower your risk of cancer.

Stress a problem? During this crazy 2020 we’re having it probably is. Guess what! Exercise can help reduce your stress levels; it also helps you battle depression. Oh and... it can improve your sex life!

See, saved the best for last! Now, if these tips above haven’t helped you find some sort of motivation, I would love to help you. I’m here to help you find your motivation, and to keep you motivated.
