Recently I’ve been posting a lot about motivation and some tips to ensure you have a strong motivator. Today we’re going to look at something that is equally as important and will make a large impact in your journey.
Positive thoughts. More specifically, how to train you mind to grow a positive mindset. You might think this is crazy talk, but having positive perceptions in regards to your health and fitness journey might actually be the secret you were looking for.
It’s been proven many times over that our thoughts have a very large impact on our actions and behaviors, basically if we wake up every morning and believe that we are active and we enjoy a healthy diet our mind is more likely to believe that and will eventually influence your decisions.
Some of us however, need help figuring out how to get our mind the that spot where we think about ourselves in a positive light. Take a look below! Some of these tips might help you.
Believe in yourself!
This is, in my opinion, the biggest thing on this list. If you truly believe that you can achieve and completely crush the goals that you’ve set out for yourself, you’ll be far more likely to actually get it done. The power of positive thinking is huge! But it starts with you, if you don’t believe it why will your body believe it?
Long Term Goals
Both myself and my clients have seen a huge difference by implementing this little tip. The typical pushback I get is that people don’t want a long-term goal because they want to see a big change as soon as possible. My concern with this, and why I focus on a long-term goal is this. I’ve seen that most people who make huge goals with a short time frame tend to get extremely demoralized if they don’t achieve that goal. Then it’s far more difficult for them to get back in to their routine.
If you make a huge (but realistic) goal with a larger time frame, you’re more likely to keep pushing for it. This is because each one of those small wins that you make week over week or month over month fuel you to hit that next checkpoint. This helps you keep a positive view of your progress instead of doubting yourself.
Visualize the Goal
I’ve talked about this before, and I truly believe that it makes a huge difference. Every morning I wake up and take a few minutes to visualize my goal, in detail (where I am, what I look like, the feelings and emotions I have, etc). This is a great exercise to do, especially if you’re feeling a bit down on yourself.
Take it a bit further than just visualizing the goal though, take a little bit of time to visualize any potential roadblocks that may get in the way. By actually visualizing your potential points of struggle you’ll be able to make a solid plan to overcome these roadblocks when they arise.
Remove Negative Thoughts
This is the biggest killer of most people's positive mindset. That evil inner voice that we all have (Your anti-self) will always try to bring us down. But the good thing is you can control your anti-self. We tend to find ourselves within “self-fulfilling prophecies” and those can be hard to get out of sometimes. The easiest way to avoid those and to encourage yourself is to refocus your thought pattern. Which goes back to my first tip. If you believe you’re active, you’ll be active. If you believe you’ll succeed instead of telling yourself you’ll fail again. YOU’LL SUCCEED. Try it, you’ll be surprised.
Respect Yourself
Most of us are our own biggest critics, and that tends to totally destroy our goals in the long run. So, if you find yourself disrespecting yourself take a second to think before you say it to yourself. If you wouldn’t tell your favorite person ever that “they’ll fail just like every other time” Why would you ever say it to yourself?
If you take the time to build a positive and supportive “Inner voice” that will translate in to a positive attitude towards the goal you have. You can re-wire the way your mind works, all it takes is a little bit of time and some true dedication.
Hopefully these quick little tips help you in the future and get you to a point where you’ve built a super positive mental attitude. Make small changes consistently and you’ll achieve great things!
