We all exercise for our own reasons. Whether the goal is to reach a certain number on the scale, reach a perfect body fat percentage, or fit into a favorite outfit again, these are all important reasons to us. Having a goal is great, and we all need them. The thing is, simply having a goal will not ensure that you have success.
Think about all the people around the world that make a new year's resolution to “get down to x”. How many of them have actually achieved this goal? Even the ones that constantly reminded themselves of the goal and had indicators all over the place may not have hit the goal. Statistically, most people only last a few weeks of work towards that goal. Then it proceeds to fade from memory as it has so many times before.
How do we stop this from happening once again? Create a new perspective in regards to that goal.
The Number Isn’t That Important.
I know what you’re thinking right now. Yes, I agree that the number is where you want to be, but it really isn’t all that important. Hear me out on this, just try to follow along here and let’s see if we can change that perspective for you. I’m serious when I say this, your number truly isn’t that important.
Momentum
To get down to that goal weight you have, or that perfect body fat percentage, or whatever your “Number” is, the most important thing you can remember is to use momentum. Think back on your life, think of a time that you got the prefect amount of sleep for a few days in a row, or maybe a time when you exercised consistently. What happened? You probably felt pretty alive, and empowered. You had a solid rhythm in life and may have felt that you were buzzing with electricity, right? That my friends, is momentum.
At that moment it didn’t matter to you if you had hit your goals, honestly, they probably weren’t anything you were giving a second thought to. That’s because you were riding the wave of momentum that you had built, and that was carrying you towards your goal at mind boggling speed.
So, my challenge to you my lovely readers is this.
Find your momentum, keep it going. Focus only on that momentum, drop the “number”.
Keep your momentum up and before you know it you’ll be looking at that number of yours with the knowledge that you’ve beaten it.
