Throughout time it’s been known that habits are the key to success. Take a look at any of the wealthiest or most successful people in the world and they all have habits that they adhere to religiously. Now, your goal may not be to create a world changing software or technology, but they’re most likely still life-changing goals.
Goals are great, but what are the habits that you’ve built to ensure that you get to those goals?
Do you have a consistent bed time? Are you exercising at the same time every day? Are you eating healthy every day?
In the scope of a health and fitness change in your life the two biggest factors you need to focus on are your eating habits and your exercise habits.
How to Start?
The easiest way to start creating a new habit is to start with a small one first. Know you want to start but don’t know how?
Start Small
Take a look at the list below for a few ideas.
Go to bed at the same time each night
Exercise for an hour every morning
Eat nothing but vegetables or fresh fruit for a midday snack
Make a healthy lunch to bring to work instead of fast food or takeout
WRITE IT DOWN
Writing your habit down helps you engrain the habit in to your mind. While you’re writing the habit down make sure to include your main motivators that you have.
Need some examples?
I will build a habit of bringing my lunch to work every day
My motivators: Save money, have a healthier body, ability to have more consistency in my diet
If you feel like you need more help with solidifying a reason to create a habit include any obstacles you’ll face while creating this habit as well as the steps you’ll take to beat the obstacles.
Make it Known
Pretty straight forward here. Once you’ve figured out the habit you plan to create, make it common public knowledge. Post it on your social platform of choice, tell all your friends and family, tell your coworkers. Make sure you tell the people you are in contact with most often. The purpose of doing this is to put you in a position where you would feel embarrassed if you quit.
Track It
It seems like I say this in all of my blog posts (Because it helps) … Keep a journal, track each day that you’ve succeeded at building your habit. Look back at each day and take stock of the growth you’ve made. Notice all the obstacles that you’ve overcome. Be proud of yourself.
It takes about 21 days to build a habit. Once you’ve built your new habit and feel that you are doing without thought, add another habit to you list and start building that habit.
If part of your habit is to start adding a fitness routine in to your life, I would love to be your choice!
