I’m constantly asked how to achieve the best results possible when exercising. Truth be told, there’s no secret formula, there's no hidden shortcut. We’re all capable of achieving the best results possible, and there’s one simple question that will determine your success.
Are you making the most of your time?
This is a question many people get uncomfortable answering, and if you’re one of those people... you’ve already answered the question: The answer is no, and you’re wasting your time.
When you’re exercising (at home or the gym), do you regularly push yourself to the limits? Are you feeling the burn increasing with each and every rep that you do? By the time you’re on your last exercise of the routine, do you have to struggle and fight against the thought of giving up and not completing the workout?
Alternatively, would you describe your routines as “comfortable” and causing a mild sweat?
If you’re taking time out of your day, time that is precious and extremely valuable, I’m guessing you have certain goals in mind, certain things you would like to achieve in regards to your body image, health and wellness? It’s probably safe to say that you’d jump at an opportunity to achieve those goals even faster than you originally thought, right?
Follow along with the tips below to learn how to spend less time exercising and still achieve the results you’re looking for!
Massive Focus
This might be obvious to some of you, but there are those of us out there who overlook this foundational factor. Achieving the goals you’re looking for requires massive amounts of focus. Don’t go the to the gym and spend all of your time chatting with people, you’re there to exercise your muscles, get to it!
When you’re lifting, it’s important to really focus on the specific muscle group you’re working (The mind-muscle connection). There has been extensive research done on the validity of the mind-muscle connection, and it’s been proven that there is a noticeable improvement in the increase in muscle when people focused completely on that specific muscle group instead of thinking about something else.
Confuse Yourself
What I mean by this is be sure to keep your muscles confused. You can do this by changing your routine often. The purpose of this is to help avoid those dreaded plateaus that we sometimes hit during a routine and to constantly challenge your body to grow. Try new exercises, adjust weight and intensity of older workouts that you’re comfortable with. By keeping your muscles confused and changing your routine frequently, you’ll see more definition, more strength and you’ll feel more accomplished because you’ve challenged yourself again.
Stay Topped Off
It’s extremely important to ensure that your body stays” topped off” so to speak. Making sure that your body is completely and fully nourished and hydrated is crucial to achieving the fitness goals you’ve been striving for. Drink the proper amount of water and nourish your body with natural whole foods.
Strategize
Everyone has an “Ideal” time to exercise, and it actually does make a huge impact on the results you achieve. The thing is, everyone’s ideal time is different, it all depends on how our body functions. So, your job here is to strategize and figure out the best time for YOUR body. Once you figure it out, make that your consistent exercise time.
Jam It Out
It’s not just in your mind, music does really help you exercise! Research has noted that music has helped motivate weightlifters to push through and achieve and additional two reps compared to when they were not listening to music. So, find those favorite jams, and crank em up!
Prioritize Comfort
That doesn’t mean you can take it easy with your workouts, what I mean by this is to ensure you’re wearing comfortable clothes. It’s going to be significantly easier for you to focus on your exercise if you aren’t constantly being interrupted by riding shorts / underwear, or worrying if you’re going to pull a SpongeBob and rip your pants!
