The Power of Being Authentic



In today's world, a world where appearances and "the norm" seem to reign supreme, it may seem like a terrifying thing to be authentic. Why would we want to be authentic and be true to ourselves when everyone else is trying to fit-in?


What Does It Mean To Be Authentic?


According to psychologists Brian Goldman and Michael Kernis; Authenticity is - the unimpeded operation of one's true or core self in one's daily enterprise.”

If we break this down it simply means to be true to yourself throughout your day, without allowing outside forces to interfere.


The Core of Authenticity


To be authentic and true to who we are we need a good dosage of self-knowledge and self-awareness. This is because to be truly authentic you need to accept both your strengths and weaknesses. As an authentic individual you need to be connected, deeply to your core values and your desires. All of this while making deliberate acts that align with those qualities.


Why Being Authentic Is Important


Being authentic is crucial to living a happier healthier life. Those of us who practice authenticity tend to stick to a routine, are more likely to reflectively journal, and achieve their goals.

  • You'll have more inner peace

  • You are more motivated

Overall you'll probably feel much more happy and satisfied with your life. Authenticity is a hard thing to figure out, but once you get it. It'll make a world of difference.
