5 Ways To Beat Sugar Cravings

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

Humanity as a whole has become rather lazy and sedentary, which doesn’t bode well for our species. Pair that with the fact that we have less and less whole organic foods, and more processed food and we’re pretty much on a crash course to a diabetic country. However, the biggest culprit in this downward trend is sugar. If there’s one thing we could remove from existence to make the world a healthier place it would be sugar. Historically our sugar intake has gone up and up year over year. Over the past 200 years we’ve had increased our pound per year intake of sugar a staggering amount. 7500% to be exact. THAT’S WILD!!

To put that another way, nutritionists suggest an average daily intake of natural sugar should be 10% of our calories. This means about 13 teaspoons of sugar a day; the current average is 42.5 teaspoons a day!

How To Beat Sugar Cravings?

MAAAAA THE PROTEIN!!!

For my sake I really hope you all understand that reference. Anyway... By having a diet that is rich in protein you’ll be fuller throughout the day. By being fuller you’ll feel more satisfied and therefore much less likely to crave sweets.

Kick The Sweeteners

Sweeteners should be your sworn enemy. By sweeteners I mean any artificial sweeteners. Natural sweeteners such as honey and agave are ok (Obviously within moderation). This goes for diet soda as well, most people just cut out regular soda. However, diet soda should be removed from your diet as well, the sweeteners used have been proven to cause cravings for sugary foods. So just avoid them.  Embrace The Darkness

If you find yourself backed in to a corner trapped by your sweet tooth with no way out, I have a solution for you. Reach towards some dark chocolate to pull you out of danger. 70% cocoa or higher chocolate has a much lower sugar content than others and it should be the only chocolate in your diet.

Become A Fruit Ninja

Stick to organic seasonal fruits. Swapping the refined sugar with natural healthy sugars is a great way to trick your sweet tooth. Fruit is also far healthier for you. A 2 ounce bar of chocolate has 30 grams of sugar and as many calories as 3 bananas! Switch the chocolate for the banana instead. You’ll intake less sugar, less calories, more fiber, more vitamins and minerals. Massive win if you ask me.

Train Your Taste Buds

By actively cutting refined sugar out of your diet you’ll end up training your taste buds not to like the refined stuff and actually seek out natural sugars. By doing this you’ll all of a sudden experience layers of flavor in fruits and natural foods. Additionally, you’ll also start to dislike refined sugar in your diet.
