5 ways to break your bad habits!

Bad habits can prevent you from living your best life” and living life to its fullest while accomplishing your goals. They can also put your health (physical, mental, and emotional) and relationships in jeopardy. Why do we have bad habits? And if we know they are no good for us, why do we still do them? Well... we develop bad habits as a reaction to or coping mechanism most of the times. Most bad habits steam from stress and boredom. If you bite your nails, cheek or going on shopping sprees, drink EVERY weekend! Most of the time these are directly related to being bored or being stressed. They can also be formed based on a fear, limiting beliefs, or a traumatizing event. Sometimes you won’t even be able to recall why or when you created/started this bad habit. Recognizing your bad habits, what caused them and overcoming them is key to freeing yourself. So how do you break these bad habits and replace them with good habits?
Choose a substitute for your bad habit! PLAN AHEAD! Make sure that you have a plan in place for how you will respond when you ultimately have to face the stress or boredom that triggers your bad habit. For example, if you get the urge to smoke when stressed try deep breathing exercises rather than reaching for a pack of smokes! Whatever you are dealing with, you need to have a plan of what to do in place of the bad habit.
Cut out as many triggers as possible! DON’T SET YOURSELF UP FOR FAILURE! Let's go back to the smoking habit. If you know that you are what I call a drunk smoker (one who only smokes when drunk) then you should attempt to not get to the point where you are drunk enough to need a cigarette. If you have a sweet tooth and can NEVER stick to a healthy lifestyle/diet because you are addicted to all the sweets in the house. GET RID OF ALL THE SWEETS! If it is not there to tempt you, you can't reach for it!
JOIN A GROUP!! Why try to overcome your bad habits on your own. Want to quit smoking? Join forces with others who have similar goals. Want to change your overall diet? Why do it in private? Sometimes we do things in private as to not sabotage the results right? Well, other times we do things in private that way no else will see when we fail. So why not find a buddy or group that is also looking to change their overall diet and lifestyle? Work together, and now the two of you can hold each other accountable. You can also celebrate major #winz with each other! Why not right?
SURROUND YOURSELF BY SUCCESS! Surround yourself with others that have already succeeded in breaking the bad habits you are trying to break! DO NOT underestimate the power of finding a group of like minded successful people. Sometimes a change of scenery and atmosphere is what you need! If you want to lose weight but fail to have a good support system, or surround yourself with people who don’t care to be healthy or want to continue to be overweight and make poor eating decisions you’re only going to make your journey that much harder!!!
Lastly VISUALIZE YOUR SUCCESS! How will you feel when you succeed? What will be different? What opportunities will open up to you? Who will you be surrounded by? What will you be wearing? Get as detailed as you possibly can when visualizing your success. How will you feel when you break that bad habit? Visualize yourself CRUSHING IT! What doors may open to you if you succeed in breaking this bad habit? What other bad habits will be broken by breaking this first major one?
START TODAY! Break a bad habit! Maybe it is a bad habit with food, diet, exercise, lifestyle etc. that is holding you back. The choice is yours to stay in your old ways or make the change!
