Juicing & Smoothie Diets

Updated: Sep 15, 2019

How are you all today? So there’s been a lot of debate lately on juice/smoothie cleansing so I decided that I would do a quick post sharing my opinion as well as my experiences with juicing and smoothies. I figured as I have done both I could give a little bit on my experiences as well. So basically a juice cleanse or smoothie cleanse is when you replace your daily meals with fresh pressed juices that are made up of fruits and vegetables or a smoothie which is basically the same thing just rather than being juiced it’s blended. As far as preference goes I prefer smoothies, as you tend to get a little bit more nutrients when you blend the entire fruit or vegetable as opposed to when you juice it you lose a lot of the nutrients. I also like it because I feel as though it’s more filling and the taste is better. I tried a juice cleanse two times before the first time was a complete and epic failure. About 3/4 through the day I ate EVERYTHING because I was so hungry. Then the second time I did a juice cleanse I was 100% on top of my water and made sure I made juices that I actually enjoyed so I would drink the entire thing. I felt HORRIBLE the first two days, but by day three I started to feel much better. I was still famished most of the day and didn't like that feeling at all. A lot of people use these type of cleanses as a quick fix to drop water weight, or I’m trying to lose weight fast I’ve never used them for that; instead, I use them when I feel as though my body needs a reset. If I’ve done really bad with my dieting or if I feel really sluggish I try to just kind of kick all the toxins if I have a lot of sugar in my diet I will tend to do a cleanse just to sort of detox myself of sugar. Same goes for dairy I’ll do a cleanse if I’ve had a lot of dairy in my diet I’ve tried to stay away from as much as possible lately because it honestly makes me extremely sick. As far as the experts go there is a clear divide between the two where those who believe that juice/smoothie cleansing are very good for you and then the opposite who believe that it’s very bad for your body. I feel as though taking in the nutrients via juices and smoothies I get a boost of energy I don’t have to drink coffee or tea for caffeine I also feel as though my skin clears up I am more hydrated now with all this being said I do not do juice or smoothie cleanse is for weeks on end. Instead, I’ll start with doing maybe a smoothie for three meals a day for five consecutive days (max), and then I’ll begin to re-introduce solid foods. I make sure that I’m always drinking consistent water when doing so. I try to stay anywhere between 100 to 128 oz. per day minimum. Also, another huge argument against doing smoothies and juices is that they are dehydrating. It’s imperative to make sure that you are keeping your electrolytes balanced in making sure you’re getting your water in, and any additional supplements for hydration is extremely important if necessary. A lot of people think that juicing or smoothie cleansing diets are sustainable long-term, but I don’t believe that they are good nor are they sustainable for long-term weight loss. I think that to restart your metabolism and restart your body this is a great way to do so but doing it too long can definitely have many adverse effects on your body as well. One of the added benefits of doing this short term would be that you would drop a few pounds, but I don’t believe that is something that should be done long term for significant fat or weight loss.

Overall you should strive to have a healthy lifestyle, and that includes a healthy diet plan. Drinking smoothies 3 times per day is not necessarily a healthy or balanced diet for long term health goals. Yet I think that if being done short term and being done correctly you are in the clear. I don’t believe that juicing or smoothie cleanses are bad for the body but this is just my opinion, I am no expert in the area I just think that it’s important to make sure that you are only doing the short term for a for a body reset, followed by re-introducing a healthy and balanced meal plan. For those of you that are looking for a good way to reset your metabolism I highly recommend Harley Pasternak‘s 15 day reset diet. This is a great way to jump start a fat loss. Journey or just a journey to a healthier you eat basically set you up on a day to day healthy sustainable diet plan. Good luck I wish you all the best, and I hope you have a fantastic day.

PEACE LOVE & HAPPINESS. LOVE THE SKIN YOU'RE IN. #BBTE
